Why Support Our Cause
Mahalo Nui Loa for your interest in supporting ʻĀina Hoʻokupu O Kīlauea (AHK) and the Kīlauea Community Agricultural Center (KCAC); we are proud to steward 75 acres of beautiful agriculture land for the County of Kauai, and in doing so we offer a variety of programs and opportunities for our community and visitors.
AHK is an IRS designated nonprofit with 501(c)3 status, and our programs and projects rely on community support and grants to achieve our goals. Your generous and thoughtful donations are tax deductible.
These are the areas where your support will go:
Infrastructure & Operations
While gifts to an organization’s infrastructure and operations may not seem appealing at first, it is actually an area that is always the most needed. It is possible that people simply do not realize that without funding in this area there would not be an organization, period. While it is a most appreciated option to support any of our programs and projects, and to “see” the fruit of your donation come into being can be very rewarding, there is nothing quite like knowing it is you that really had a hand in keeping AHK & KCAC moving forward with their goals for the immediate community and Kauai as a whole.
If we do not invest in the future generation of farmers our dependence on imported food, which is already astronomical, will continue to grow. Our state simply must become more agriculturally self-sustainable as we are vulnerable to a devastating food shortage should our imports become interrupted. We are also selling our own health and well-being short when we depend on so much processed foods, and produce that has taken weeks to make it to grocer’s shelves, time significantly leaching important nutrients. We must engage our young people in the importance of agriculture and provide them with lucrative opportunities to begin to see agriculture as a viable career option. We must also provide them with the technology, tools, education, and opportunities to practice and learn what is available to them. Supporting KCAC Youth Programs is an investment in your future.
When you support farming at KCAC you can know that your money is being directed to the heart of our mission, whether it’s building food security, growing the next generation of farmers, providing growth opportunities to local farmers, or clearing and preparing more of the acreage we steward to increase those growth opportunities, you are investing in the production and consumption of fresh, local produce.
Where The Need Is Greatest
It’s a fact, the unexpected happens. To compensate for the unexpected all organizations need a fund that they can draw upon to mitigate the emergency or an immediate need. By supporting this fund, you could be helping us replace a tractor part, repair a broken water line, rebuild a green house, etc. All families need a “nest egg,” businesses and organizations are no different; help us be able to problem-solve quickly and efficiently when needed.
